The Retreat
How should I prepare for the experience?
We suggest that you carry out a gentle detox to prepare yourself. Abstain from alcohol or stimulants like caffeine in the two weeks before the experience. Reduce your sugar and stay away from processed foods. Get plenty of sleep. Exercise daily in nature.
How many guests attend each group experience?
There are usually about 12 guests attending each group experience.
Do we have a contract that outlines our responsibilities to each other?
Yes and it’s important that you read it and understand it. It is a mutual contract and it also respects the needs of the group.
What type of food will be served?
We approach food as medicine, especially when it comes to the vital properties of locally sourced, seasonal, lovingly prepared vegetarian/vegan cuisine. Our menu is created on site using a variety of local, seasonal and organic (where possible) produce. The menu is tailored to each day and will vary to accommodate the specifics of the daily schedule in order to optimise your energy, your experience and to provide a multi sensory journey. Please discuss any dietary requirements or allergies with us in advance.
Psilocybin
What is the legality of the psilocybin mushroom in Spain?
As a matter of international law, no plants (natural material) containing psilocin and psilocybin are at present controlled under the Convention on Psychotropic Substances of 1971 (the “1971 Convention”). Consequently, preparations made of these plants are not under international control and, therefore, not subject to any of the articles of the 1971 Convention.
This interpretation of the Convention has been confirmed by the International Narcotics Control Board (“INCB”), the watchdog for the United Nations drug policy, in the 2010 Report of the INCB E/INCB/2010/1, published on 2 March 2011, as follows:
284. Many plants that contain psychoactive substances with stimulating or hallucinogenic properties, as well as preparations made from those plants, have traditional uses in some countries or regions; for example, some are used in religious rites. Under the 1961 Convention and that Convention as amended by the 1972 Protocol, plants that are the sources of narcotic drugs, such as cannabis plant, opium poppy and coca bush, are subject to specific control measures. In contrast, although some active stimulant or hallucinogenic ingredients contained in certain plants are controlled under the 1971 Convention, no plants are currently controlled under that Convention or under the 1988 Convention. Preparations (e.g. decoctions for oral use) made from plants containing those active ingredients are also not under international control.
285. Examples of such plants or plant material include khat (Catha edulis), whose active ingredients cathinone and cathine are listed in Schedules I and III of the 1971 Convention; ayahuasca, a preparation made from plants indigenous to the Amazon basin of South America, mainly a jungle vine (Banisteriopsis caapi) and another tryptamine-rich plant (Psychotria viridis) containing a number of psychoactive alkaloids, including DMT; the peyote cactus (Lophophora williamsii), containing mescaline; magic mushrooms (Psilocybe), which contain psilocybine and psilocine; Ephedra, containing ephedrine; “kratom” (Mitragyna speciosa), a plant indigenous to South-East Asia that contains mitragynine; iboga (Tabernanthe iboga), a plant that contains the hallucinogen ibogaine and is native to the western part of Central Africa; varieties of Datura containing hyoscyamine (atropine) and scopolamine; and Salvia divinorum, a plant originating in Mexico that contains the hallucinogen salvinorin A.
In Spain, despite the position of the INCB, Spanish Police Authorities have a tendency to understand that the “plant material containing psychoactive substances” should be considered as “drug” merely because they may contain substances that are subject to the 1971 Convention.
However, the use of drugs in private, and the cultivation of plants that may produce psychotropic substances for personal use, are not criminal offenses in Spain.
Is the psilocybin mushroom legal in my country?
Psilocybin mushroom is illegal in many countries which may include yours. Re*union currently operates only within Spain and we work solely within the legal framework pertaining to Spain.
Am I ready for a psilocybin mushroom experience?
What’s stopping you? Worry? Anxiety? Fear? These are normal reactions and should be embraced. Book a clarity call with us to talk it over. You decide when you are ready and we can help support that process.
How long does a psilocybin mushroom experience last for?
It lasts for approximately 5 hours from start to finish. It takes about 1 hour for the effects to start. Then the most immersive phase lasts a further 2 hours. The effect then gradually reduces over the final 2 hours.
What happens if I have a “bad trip”?
Bad experiences are genuinely rare. If you experience a reaction which is unpleasant we help you to surrender to the experience and embrace it, it is part of the learning. We are highly experienced in guiding and managing psilocybin mushroom experiences so will ensure you are supported through any aspect which you find challenging.
Medical Information
If I have a diagnosed medical condition can I attend?
Unfortunately we are not able to accommodate those with a history of physical or mental health illness. We are not medical practitioners and our experiences are designed for those who are healthy. If you have an existing condition we suggest you first seek advice through your medical practitioner and then get in touch with us for clarification.
Can I attend if I’m taking an antidepressant (SSRI or SNRI)?
Unfortunately we cannot accept anyone taking anti-depressant medication. SSRI and SNRI antidepressants work on the same receptor system as psilocybin and block the effects of it.
How do you determine if I am healthy or not?
Once you have paid your deposit, we ask you to complete an application form which includes a full health questionnaire. We then conduct a video interview to talk through your application form and your personal health situation to determine if you are able to join. We then have a signed contract between us which explains our responsibilities to each other, including your honest appraisal of your own health.
Can plant medicine help my mental health issue?
There is a significant amount of research happening right now into the way in which plant medicines and psychedelic plants can support mental health conditions such as depression, OCD, trauma and PTSD. However our retreats are not able to provide this type of medical assistance. Please see our Blog and Links section for further information.
Is there medical support?
We have trained first aiders and first aid supplies on site; we have a doctor available on call 24/7; our venues are situated approximately 20 minutes from a hospital in case of a medical emergency.
Do you have health insurance in place for me?
No we do not offer health insurance. Spain provides free health care for EU nationals though you should carry out your own research with regard to what you are covered for. Those from non EU countries should have their own private insurance in place.
Do you cater for allergies?
Yes we can though we cannot guarantee that the retreat is entirely free from specific allergens e.g. nuts, gluten, lactose. Please contact us to discuss your situation.
What is your Covid Policy?
You cannot travel or attend the retreat if you have a positive diagnosis. In which case we would require you to send us a doctor’s certificate of infection and we would move your booking to a future retreat.
